Chris Colgan, External Stakeholder Development Manager at the Department for Work and Pensions, shares information about upcoming Stakeholder Insight Sessions which will explore the pathways of refugees beginning their journey into work.

DWP Stakeholder Insight Sessions

Dates: 3rd, 4th and 9th September

Location: Online

The DWP Customer Journey Mapping Team are currently developing a customer journey focused on refugees transitioning into employment after leaving Home Office support. As part of this work, we are hosting Stakeholder Insight Sessions to gather professional perspectives and lived experience that will help us bring this journey to life.

This session will explore the path a refugee takes when beginning their journey into work. We are interested in refugees experience whether claiming a DWP benefit or not. While our focus is on employment, we recognise that this journey is shaped by a range of barriers and enablers. Your insight will be invaluable in helping us understand:

·       Best practice and good news stories

·       Examples of processes that have worked well

·       Challenges and barriers faced by this client group

·       Opportunities for additional support

·       Case studies that illustrate real experiences

We are particularly interested in input around refugees outside of formal resettlement schemes (e.g. Ukraine and Afghanistan), as this work is part of a Ministerial request with a direct route to government policy development.

While we won’t be analysing individual cases, any anonymised case studies or examples you can share would be extremely helpful in shaping our understanding and recommendations.

Dates and Times:

There will be three Microsoft Teams Sessions to choose from:

Wednesday – 03/09/2025 - Time 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Thursday – 04/09/2025 - Time  09:30 am to 11 am

Tuesday – 09/09/2028 - Time 2 pm – 3:30 pm

Each session will cover the same material and will last no more than 90 minutes.

If you are able to attend one of these workshops, please respond by close of Monday 1st September by replying to this email or emailing operational.stakeholders@dwp.gov.uk with your choice of session.

You will then receive an invite for your chosen session.

If you know of colleagues or other organisations that would be able to share insight on this topic please pass this invite on.

Your contribution will help ensure that the voices and experiences of refugees are meaningfully reflected in our work.

Thanks for your time, it is always appreciated.

Kind regards

Chris
