Mark Upward from the Advice Shop shares information from the Free Legal Services Unit about their upcoming Pro Bono Week. Agencies may refer clients for Pro Bono Legal Advice for certain issues and therefore this may be of interest.

The Free Legal Services Unit are hosting two events during this year Pro Bono Week. Both events will be hosted in Parliament House, Edinburgh and are in-person attendance only. As one of our accredited agencies at the FLSU, please accept this as an invitation to the two upcoming events in November. We would be very grateful to see you there.
Monday 4 November, 6pm to 8pm
Laigh Hall, Edinburgh (In-person only)
The Free Legal Services Unit and the Pro Bono Week Committee are delighted to invite you to join their joint Pro Bono Week Launch Event which for the first time is taking place in both London and Edinburgh simultaneously.
Edinburgh will remotely join for London's keynote speeches from the Attorney General, the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC and Rt Hon Lady Justice Simler DBE. After which, attendees will then hear from The Advocate General for Scotland, Catherine Smith KC. A panel formed of inspiring speakers will then continue to deliver pro bono life stories which will be shared through the client voice, demonstrating the life changing impact of pro bono work.

The event will be jointly chaired from London by Toby Brown, Chair of the UK Pro Bono Week organising committee and from Edinburgh by Neil Mackenzie KC, Convenor of the Free Legal Services Unit and Keeper of the Library.
A networking reception in the Laigh Hall will follow the panel with a chance to have some refreshments and canapes.

As part of Pro Bono Week 2024: The Power of Pro Bono, the Free Legal Services Unit are hosting a second event on the topic of Environmental Law. The event will be held in the Laigh Hall, Edinburgh at 6:00pm on Wednesday 4 November 2024.
This event will showcase Pro Bono in environmental law. It will bring together an advocate and barrister who have undertaken environmental pro bono, as well as two public interest environmental law charities, the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland and the Environmental Law Foundation. Attendees will also hear from community representatives who have benefitted from pro bono legal representation to protect their local environment.
This event will be in-person only at the Laigh Hall, with a panel of speakers including:-

Emma Montlake, Environmental Law Foundation
Jessica Allen, No.5 Barrister Chambers
After the panel, there will be a Q&A session as well as time to network with fellow legal professionals, charity sectors, those interested in Environmental Pro Bono work. There will also be canapes and refreshments served.
