Introduction to Anti-Racism: Foundations, Reflection & Readiness

Date: Wednesday 1st April, 9.30am - 4.30pm

Registration: Book on Eventbrite

This training is free

This session is an introduction to anti-racism

Who Is This For

Edinburgh Advice Network Member Organisations Only

  • Leaders, Management and Decision Makers

  • Organisations beginning or revisiting their anti-racist work

  • Those who understand that learning is ongoing

No prior anti-racism training is required.

Anti-racism is not something you can complete, tick off, or be “trained in” during a single workshop. It is a long-term practice that requires ongoing learning, reflection, accountability, and organisational commitment.

This full-day session is designed to provide a starting point: building shared language, foundational understanding, and readiness for deeper anti-racist work.

Participants will explore racism as systemic, reflect on power and positionality, and begin to understand how harm can occur even without harmful intent. The day intentionally leaves questions open and unfinished - because meaningful anti-racist practice cannot be rushed.

What This Session Will Cover
  • Shared definitions of racism and anti-racism

  • Understanding racism as structural and systemic

  • Introduction to systemic harm (unintentional harm)

  • Power, privilege, positionality, and intersectionality

  • Reflection on individual and organisational responsibility

  • Preparing for further learning and action

Accessibility & Care

We recognise that conversations about racism can be challenging and emotional, particularly for people with lived experience. The session will include clear boundaries, learning agreements, and opportunities to step back if needed.

Please note: Hot drinks will be provided however lunch is not included.
  • We will only take a maximum of 3 people per organisation

  • Attendees must be Edinburgh Advice Network members. For more information and to apply to join visit website and/or contact the Advice Network Coordinator, Jo Baldock, at joanne.baldock@capitalcitypartnership.org
