Did you know….
83,000 employment and support allowance (ESA) claimants each month are now subject to managed migration, with the final Migration Notices to be issued in September.
24% of legacy benefit claimants have seen their benefits terminated and not claimed Universal credit (UC).
The latest DWP statistics show that just over half of managed migration UC claimants are awarded transitional protection.

He’ll be joined by Tressa Burke, Chief Executive Officer of Glasgow Disability Alliance and Sophie Howes, Head of Policy at CPAG as we discuss UK benefit reforms & the implications for families in Scotland. Chairing the session will be Brian Taylor, Political Commentator and Herald columnist.

This practical course is essential for new representatives and advisers who want to be more confident in representing clients at social security appeal hearings at the First-tier Tribunal. It equips you with the skills you need to handle hearings and make sure your client has the best chance of success. You will gain confidence by practicing skills and sharing tactics.
Universal credit – managed migration (standard level) 11 June online
This course focuses on the transitional issues for claimants who are moving from employment and support allowance (ESA) to universal credit (UC). It is expected that all remaining claimants in Scotland will be moved to UC under the managed migration process during 2025. Giving the right advice and support during this process can make a huge difference. In some cases, transitional protection is available, intended to ensure claimants are not worse off. This equips advisers with the knowledge to give advice on options and implications involved in moving from benefits and tax credits to UC.
Benefit basics in Scotland (introductory level) 24 – 25 June online
You do not need to be a benefit expert to make a difference. This course is for anyone working with people in Scotland on low incomes or with additional needs. You will learn the basics of social security and be able to identify which benefits are available to the people you work with. You will understand the key life events that can have an impact on benefit entitlement and know how to signpost effectively for more advice and information.
Booking is quick and easy online, and you can pay by credit card or invoice. Courses run 10am – 1pm each day.
