Sarah Kyambi, Director of Migration Policy Scotland, reaches out Edinburgh Advice Network members for help in recruiting research participants for their Better Mixing Project. They are focusing in particular on people living in Granton, Pilton, Marchmont, Morningside and surrounding areas. They are keen also to connect with community spaces and organisations based in these areas.

'Hello

I hope you are doing well - and hoping you could offer help with recruiting research participants in Edinburgh for the Better Mixing Project. We are investigating how racial diversity is perceived and experienced by migrant and racially diverse communities in Scotland. The research will inform a policy laboratory to co-design interventions that can better support a positively diverse future.

We are looking for people to take part in some short online interviews about their experiences of meeting and sharing community spaces with people from different migrant and ethnic backgrounds in Edinburgh.

We are focusing on Granton, Pilton (or the surrounding areas) and Marchmont, Morningside (or the surrounding areas). We really keen to speak to people who have been living in Scotland for 2 years or more (including those who have lived in Scotland their whole lives). In terms of ethnicity we are particularly keen to include the following groups Black African; European; South Asian; Chinese; LatinX; Scottish (both White and BME).

In case you have access to networks or venues where you might be able to spread the word about this, I'm attaching a flyer. If you can think of people directly who may be interested to take part, please let them know - and if you need more information to share with them, please let me know.

In case there is anyone you can think of who you would like to email directly with information, a draft email is below, but you can of course adapt this.

Thanks for any help you can offer with this.

All good wishes,

Sarah

Email Subject: Invitation to take part in research on ethnic diversity in Scotland

Dear … ,

I am writing to ask if you would consider taking part in a research project about how people in Scotland are experiencing changing ethnic diversity in the places where they live. I am helping Migration Policy Scotland (a small independent charity working to build a better migration future for everyone) to find participants.

The research interviews will ask people from Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Fife about their experiences and feelings about changing diversity in their area. If you are interested to take part, you will need to meet up online with one of the project’s peer researchers to complete a short questionnaire together. This will take about 30-45 minutes.

Migration Policy Scotland need to recruit a diverse group of people to take part in this research. So if you are interested, please could you send an email to Leri Price (bettermixing.lp@gmail.com) letting her know your gender, age, ethnicity/nationality, how long you have been living in Scotland (including if you have lived here all your life) and which area of Edinburgh you live in. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who live in Morningside/Marchmont/Sciennes and Grant/Pilton.

MPS will use this research to support the development of new initiatives to bring people together in positive ways including through shared use of community spaces, public facilities and local services.

Please let Leri know as soon as you can if you would like to take part and she’ll send you more details.

Best wishes,
