The DWP has recently launched a Pension Credit Awareness Campaign which follows new figures showing that only 65% of those entitled to Pension Credit claimed the benefit for the year ending 2023.

Sheila Haig, City of Edinburgh Council Customer Manager, Transactions - Assessment and Finance, updates that a targeted approach is being explored in Edinburgh and more information will follow on this once the plan is finalised.
In the meantime, please see the update from Chopsy McBurnie, DWP Senior Customer Service Leader in Edinburgh with all the details about the DWP campaign.
'Good Afternoon Everyone,
Some of you may already know me through the City of Edinburgh LEP, but to introduce myself, I am the Senior Customer Service Leader in Edinburgh for DWP, and have responsibility for Edinburgh’s Jobcentres.
I’m writing to you about a Pension Credit Awareness Campaign by the DWP which launched yesterday. The Department is committed to ensuring that all those who are eligible to receive Pension Credit are doing so – and we know there are potentially many households across the UK who may be missing out due to a lack of awareness or some misconceptions on eligibility. The aim of the campaign launched yesterday is to raise awareness of Pension Credit and help dispel some of the common misconceptions that might deter people from claiming it by highlighting that:
People of State Pension age may be entitled to Pension Credit even though they may have modest savings, or a retirement income or own their own home
An award of Pension Credit can provide access to a range of other benefits such as help with housing costs, council tax, heating bills and for those aged 75 or over, a free TV licence
If you work with people over State Pension age, or with those supporting them, or know anyone who might be eligible, then please encourage them to find out more and sign post them to the Pension Credit Calculator. The link below takes you to the GOV.UK website for the Campaign Toolbox, and includes links to the Pension Credit Calculator, and promotional material including downloadable posters for display, flyers, and images for use online including social media platforms and websites.
We would encourage that applicants use the online calculator to check eligibility and then make their application as soon as possible.
My Jobcentres will display posters, and there will be a TV Commercial campaign, however my Jobcentre teams may not engage with those who are potentially eligible as we predominately work with working age customers, so the wider we can promote the campaign, the hope is that we reach as many eligible customers as possible, to potentially eligible customers, or their friends, families or supporters.
I genuinely appreciate your support with this, and if you have any questions about the campaign, please do let me know.
Kind Regards
Chopsy'
