Andrew Jordan, Immigration Advice Manager (Scotland) at Settled, shares information on funding losses for organisations supporting people under the EU Settlement Scheme, and concerns about the potential impact of this on the wider Advice Sector. He asks for your help in answering 6 quick questions which will help increase understanding and data on the impact this will have.

Impact of GFO funding losses on Advice Sector:
Please answer 6 quick questions for Settled

The Home Office will cease all funding for the Government Funded Organisation (GFO) network at the end of March 2026.

This group of organisations has received local and national funding to provide legal advice and assistance on the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) at Immigration Advice Authority (IAA-previously the OISC) Level 1 and above.

As you may be aware, all EU citizens need immigration status in the UK. Those who entered the UK prior to 31/12/20 may be eligible to apply under the EUSS. Non-EU dependents of EU citizens can also apply under the EUSS. We fear that much more pressure will fall on the few remaining providers of such legal advice. This comes at a time when these cases are more complex, often involve vulnerable people and the Home Office is taking more enforcement action against potential EUSS beneficiaries.

Settled is one of the few remaining nationwide organisations doing work in this area. A considerable amount of our work comes from Scotland. We would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the simple survey via the link so that we can understand better the needs of those who still need to make such applications.
