The Scotland Reducing Gambling Harm programme (SRGH) at the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) would like to invite you to a Roundtable event on gambling marketing and advertising.
UK advertising regulations on gambling are far more liberal than other countries in Europe, yet we produce more evidence on how advertising gambling to people causes harm.
Every year, £1.5 billion is spent on gambling adverts in the UK – advertising that young people in Scotland are regularly exposed to through digital, tv, radio, and on our streets.
With the FIFA World Cup approaching, this event examines the relationship between gambling advertising, sport, and harm amongst young people. We want this Roundtable to start momentum to advocate for a childhood free from gambling advertising in Scotland, reducing the risk and harm that gambling poses to young people.
The event will bring together voices from across the third sector, academia, public health, policy, research, and lived experience to discuss:
What impact gambling advertising and marketing has on people, especially our young people, in Scotland
Ways in which we can reduce and regulate gambling marketing and advertising
How best to use our collective voice to advocate for change
Date: 18th May 2026
Times: 10am – 4pm, with networking from 9.30am and lunch provided at 12.30pm
Venue: COSLA Caledonia Conference Suite, 19 Haymarket Yards, Edinburgh EH12 5BH
