Emma Matthews from Skills Development Scotland shares information about changes to the career services in Edinburgh:
'Dear Partner,
Changes to the career service in Edinburgh
I write with regards to changes we are making to where we deliver career services in Edinburgh.
As part of a review, the Public Access Centre in Shandwick Place in Edinburgh’s West End will close to customers on Friday 29 November and from Tuesday 3 December, we will be available to customers across a range of colleges and community venues. This new place based community delivery model will support our customers but also enhance and expand our partnership working across the city. If you feel you our new model could support your organisation, and delivery, and would like to discuss further please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Our estates profile, including Public Access Centres and our offices, go through a periodic review in line with the lease agreements. At each lease event, we have always focused on reviewing the site based on evidence of customer need and engagement and office usage, as well as any wider opportunities for co-locating with partners and/or broadening our outreach footprint. This is consistent with the need to deliver value for money for the investment in public services.
The last few years have enhanced our understanding of the ongoing evolution of customer preferences for consuming services, patterns of customer engagement and the way we work. The Career Review evidence base also led to a specific recommendation, driven by the customer voice, about the need for more community-based services. Closer working with partners will enable us to increasingly deliver services where our customers are.
This learning was always going to inform our approach however, it has become even more important as we find ourselves in a significant period of change, including the challenge to public sector budgets. Our review approach will provide opportunities to reduce estates costs. Importantly, we will use these savings to protect our critical investment in front line resources and their support services, ensuring no detriment to customers.
Please see below the venue delivery sites and calendar available for customers from the 3rd December 2024.
