Update on Council Tax Exemption for Edinburgh College students

Brian Murphy, Depute Customer Manager in City of Edinburgh Council's Transactions Team, shares an update on Edinburgh College students following a recent Council Tax Working Group meeting. The issue was discussed recently at the EAN Session on Public Debt with some agencies supporting students whose exemptions had been removed due to their course being classed as part time.

Update to Council Tax Working Group members 13.03.26

'Just a brief update on Edinburgh College students we discussed last week. The College has since clarified their position on the average hours of study and I’m pleased to confirm this takes the students over the required 21 hours per week.

The Council Tax team are working on reinstating exemptions and discounts on cases we’re aware of.
