Radio Teleswitch Switch-off

Julia Dunkerley, Changeworks, updates Edinburgh Advice Network members on the Radio Teleswitch Switch-off, which will start from Monday 30th June, and highlights useful resources on this, and the associated withdrawal of the Heat With Rent scheme.

'There will now be a phased approach to the Radio Teleswitch Switch-off, rather than the hard deadline as previously planned. This process will start from Monday 30th June and should help reduce any disruption to energy supply.

The Radio Teleswitch is an old type of electric meter which is used for tariffs with a day and night rate for electricity for example Economy 10. It is typical in households with storage heaters. As these type of meters will soon become unusable, all customers will need to change to a modern, ideally smart meter.

The guide on our website provides more information on the process, including who is affected, what will happen, and what those affected need to do. We have also attached an Advice Guide which includes useful numbers, what to say when contacting a supplier about this issue, and how to deal with common responses from the call handler.

The RTS switch off is additionally linked to the withdrawal of the Heat With Rent scheme, affecting some City of Edinburgh Council tenants. Changeworks Affordable Warmth Services are continuing to work with the City of Edinburgh Council to support tenants affected by this as the transition continues. More information can be found at Changes to Heat with Rent payments – The City of Edinburgh Council'
